    R.I.P Zune

Bloomberg today #-Link-Snipped-#that Microsoft's iPod killer, Zune is dead. The demand for Microsoft's audio player is dipping and Microsoft has decided to focus on what they're really good at - Software. Bloomberg's insider sources have confirmed that MS will stop producing Zune hardware. Zune's software is available on Xbox 360 and Windows 7 phones. Microsoft will keep developing and updating the Zune software for these platforms. It's however not known whether Microsoft will keep the name. [IMG]

Zune was officially introduced in 2006 and people expected it to be iPod killer music device. Zune buyers say that the hardware & features are better than iPod, but it didn't sell to Microsoft's expectations. I think changing the name from Zune to iZune would have worked in Microsoft's favor.

During an interview in 2006 at the time of launch of Zune, one of the senior MS official had said that they're trying to beat Apple in the music game and planning to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in improving Zune and its technology. However, customers didn't like the Zune much and the growing popularity of Smat Phones would have added to dropping sales of MS Music Devices. Zune HD, was one of the best selling version of the product since its inception in 2009. Microsoft had decided to keep selling Zunes in this year. If you want to buy one, the time is NOW to get yours.
