aruncharyi think diode is an uncontrollable device and because of its non- linearity,in that situation it may not acts as a capacitor phenomenon.and one more it must have the concept of time constant where normal capacitor does in action. -
Jeffrey ArulrajBut still for a fixed voltage the capacitance is also fixed so it can easily act as a timing circuit with a time constant

The only issue we found was that the capacitance of the PN diode is less That is why Varactor diodes came into play
They have higher capacitances than that of PN diode so we use them instead
