Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 800 Series and 600 Processors

After the huge success of their Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, Qualcomm Inc has now unveiled Snapdragon 800 Series and 600 Series Processors. These latest flagship processors promise faster performance without compromising on battery life. Let have a look at both of these processors one by one.

Snapdragon 600 Processor

This processor features a quad core Krait 300 CPU that can be clocked up to 1.9 GHz, Adreno 320 GPU that supports compute APIs like OpenGL ES 3.0, OpenCL and Renderscript Compute, a Low Power Double Data Rate 3 (LPDDR3) RAM that is capable to give speed boost to the data flow across channels. The company claims that it gives 40% better performance than the Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. The product is now in sampling process and will come to devices by the 3rd quarter of 2013.

Snapdragon 800 Processor

These processors will be much faster than the 600 Series ones as they contain a quad core Krait 400 CPU running at speeds of 2.3 GHz per core, Adreno 330 GPU that features Flex Render Technology and other leading APIs that is guaranteed to make it twice as powerful as the Adreno 320 GPU. For faster memory access, two 32 bit LPDDR3 RAM operating at 800 MHz have been used that provide memory bandwidth of 12.8 Gbps. Faster data connectivity is given by its 4G LTE Cat 4 and 802.11ac that provide data rates of 150 Mbps and 1Gbps respectively. In terms of media the processors are capable of capturing and play back of UltraHD (4K resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels) and handling codecs like DTS-HD and Dolby Digital Plus with 7.1 surround sound. Continuing with increasing megapixels on hand held devices, Dual Image Signal processors capable of handling images of 55 MP have been installed that allow support for up to 4 separate cameras, 3D image capture and 1080p video recording. It is expected that it will perform 75% better than the Snapdragon S4 Pro. This processor can not only be used in mobile devices such as smartphones but also on devices like Smart TVs and digital media adapters. This one is also in the sampling process and will be rolled out on consumer devices by mid 2013.
