Have you been to the observatory in Trivandrum opposite the Kanakakkunnu Palace? Did you know that the observatory was built by the same astronomer, Sir George Biddell Airy, the 7th Astronomer Royal, who built the Greenwich Observatory in 1850. The ancient couch used for watching the stars transiting the meridian and the meridian slit are still there. Worth a visit, even just to absorb the atmosphere of old observational astronomy.
May be you can do a historical project on the Trivandrum Observatory or problems of communication to interstellar distances. Even if the time difference is a few minutes between planets, it can be crucial if there is a crisis.
