Popular car audio maker Blaupunkt to make smartphones for Indians

Blaupunkt, the German car accessories maker, famous for its car audio system has rolled up sleeves to make smartphones and wearable devices for Indian markets. The company will test their latest products in Indian markets before launching them in other SAARC countries, informed Andrzej Cebrat, MD of IP development at Blaupunkt. The company is planning to launch smartphones, tablet computers and wearable devices as early as next year. The company is yet to decide on the price segment it will target in India.

Blaupunkt believes that the success of its products in Indian markets will be a case study for venturing into other global markets. The feedback and response it gets from Indian markets will be valid in other markets, Cebrat added.

The company is also exploring options to take advantage of 'Make in India' initiative announced by the Indian government and is open to manufacturing their devices in India. Cebrat hoped that the volumes will support the business case. Blaupunkt is aiming to sell about 10 million smartphone accessories by the end of 2017.

Blaupunkt has tied up with Vidur and Company, a Delhi based electronics distributor to establish offline sales channels pan-India. The company is also exploring tie-ups with online retail giants like Amazon, Flipkart, Tata Cliq and Snapdeal for extra push among the markets.

The company plans to introduce products like USB cables, earphones, power banks and VR Headsets in the budget range. All of these products are expected to be available via large format retail chains throughout India.
