Philips Eco-Friendly, Low Power Consumption Light Bulb Is Expensive
Energy saving solutions may not always be cost effective. The latest electric bulb from Philips; which received the $10 million grant from the USA department of energy in August last year on winning the L prize is hitting the retailers in US like Home Depot this Sunday (it's the Earth Day) for a pocket bursting $50 price tag. Utility companies may bring down the price of the bulb to $20 a piece. Those of you who prefer to buy online should start saving as the utility companies won't offer discounts on online purchases.

The bulb does save the money! The bulb only consumes 10 Watt power to produce illumination equivalent to a 60 Watt bulb. If you use it for 4 hours every day, you will save $8 per year. The life of the bulb is estimated to be at least 30,000 hours or about 20 years on 4 hours of daily use. Although the bulb looks yellow when turned off, it produces white light when turned on.
