Search Engines has become one of the crucial part of day to day life of Internet users. At an average everyday more than 14 billion queries are fired across all search engines. Since every person fires queries in his/her own way its hard for search engines designers to find out what results should be given as output to fulfill search needs of their search engine users.

Since years Google has stood as dominant player when came to search engines. Someday queries where as short as one or two words but today they have become like a sentence, so its very important for search engines to provide most expected results in first two pages else their users may switch the engine. Everyday search algorithms and databases are modified to meet never ending questions of people. But at most basic level search queries were classified by Google which still is biggest factor in every search. 1. Navigational Queries:
Navigational queries are performed by users to land themselves directly on some website or page. For example you want to search my very first article (The UNIX Derivative) on CrazyEngineers. You forgot that the article was published on crazy engineers or its difficult for you to navigate through VOICE pages to find out where the article is so simple you will type “The UNIX Derivative” in Google search and it will land you directly on article page. Such queries help people find directly what they want, at an average this type of queries are not used often. Number of people using this kind of query in more less than other queries.

2. Informational Queries:
These are the queries on which everyone has his eye on, from normal man to high end marketers. This type of queries include typing questions on search engines to get answers. These kinda queries may include following type of queries
today's top news, what is OS, Ford car, and even name of person.
Note that providing information is only goal of these queries so its really difficult for designers to formulate this kinda queries since they can become several words long.

3. Transactional Queries:
Transactional queries doesn't really involve only financial matters according to search fundae. They actually mean high level database activity. Again database not only means MySQL or Oracle to search engines, a word document can itself act as database for search engine. That means creating and deleting accounts, blogs, articles, comments everything is transactional to a search engine that means if you'll type “Nrupen Masram” on search engine it will try to search every occurrence of “Nrupen Masram” available on web pages, their titles and even URLs.

These basic search queries are further sub-divided extensively and you surely know why but for now I consider above things might have solved some of your search myths.
