Nokia Reading Launched In Europe, Bringing You Lumia Sized Novels

Where Windows phone users and avid readers intersect, enters Nokia Reading, an ebook reader which offers you the privilege to find, buy and read a book in your own language. Nokia Reading has announced its launch in France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and the UK with a promise to follow it across other countries later this year. But the question that bogs the mind is if the smartphone screens can pull it off.

Nokia Reading is available as a service to Nokia Windows Phones, including Lumia 800, 710 and 610 and the recently launched flagship phone, Lumia 900. The ebook service offers a vast number of local titles to pick from, free-to-download international classics, and acclaimed English titles like The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes, with an ever-expanding database. Publishers like Penguin and Hachette, and Pearson are joining the bandwagon to establish a firm base for services exclusive to Nokia Lumia.

Nokia Lumia phones have gained popularity for their ClearBlack AMOLED screen, which is capable of visibility under direct sunlight, due to reduced reflections. Nokia claims that ebook reading on Lumia devices will prove to be a worthy experience, supported by Microsoft’s ClearType technology which produces fonts neatly. The type is also resizable with a bonus night mode feature that turns the white pages black and the black words white for better reading.

With a screen like that, Nokia firmly believes that Reading would do well on the Lumia devices. Nokia has also assured optimal reading visibility with updates for Nokia Reading to be launched in coming months, including audio books and News Stream.  The service is available via Nokia Collection in Marketplace.

Probably good for blogs, but do smartphones have the potential to provide for a complete novel experience, however good the screen?
