How about using the ancient sling shot to shoot objects into space?
A mechanical device spinning at peripheral velocities above the escape velocity would break to pieces. How about a mechanical equivalent of a cyclotron that just accelerates the object to be thrown but itself is stationary?
This is what HyperV Technologies Corporation hopes to do with its Slingatron.
