DIY engineers - take a serious note: The Raspberry folks have announced much awaited Raspberry Pi 2 Model B for just $35 (price same as the Raspberry Pi B+ : New Features & Key Improvements, Cost: $35). This announcement comes as a surprise because the launch of Pi 2 was expected by 2017. The Raspberry Pi 2 offers a substantial, fundamental upgrade over the existing model B+. Raspberry Pi Foundation lead Eben Upton informed 'The Register' that the latest hardware is a usable personal computer (PC) now. Let's have a quick look at the hardware -
 • Broadcom BCM2836, 900 MHz quad core ARM Cortex A7 cpu (6x faster in performance)
 • 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM (2x memory)
 • Backward compatible with Raspberry Pi 1.
Note that because of the ARMv7 processor, the Pi 2 is capable of running entire range of ARM GNU/Linux distros. But that's not all; the official blog confirms that the new hardware can run Windows 10 as well! Microsoft's offering the operating system free of charge to the makers. It'd be quite interesting to see how the Raspberry community members around the world make use of GNU distros and Windows running on the new hardware.

The board is available today few element14 and RS Components for $35 / £25. It's also expected that the prices of the older boards will go down in the next few days. Do let us know your thoughts on the new hardware and how you intend to use it.
