New Delhi- Howrah Rajdhani Express Offers Free Wi-Fi

Finally, we've Wi-Fi in trains! The New-Delhi - Howrah Rajdhani express has began offering free Wi-Fi services to the passengers. The Internet speeds are nice too, with 4 Mbps download and 512 Kbps upload on the go. Techno Sat Comm (India) Ltd is offering the services and the officials say that email and online transactions will be given the top priority and video downloads or gaming would be given lowest priority on the service.

The trains will be equipped with 2G/3G links with satellite and Wi-Fi routers and repeaters to offer the broadband services in the train. But as with most of the 'government' offered services, you will have to submit a ton of things (viz. mobile number, PNR number, Government ID (election card, Aadhar etc.). We understand that this is necessary to comply with the security guidelines. Once the necessary information is shared, a unique password will be delivered to the user via mobile. The user will then be able to access the Internet by connecting to the train's wi-fi network.

The Indian Government is now planning to offer wi-fi services in other popular trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto .

Brilliant plan, and I totally welcome Railways' plan to get out of the jungle age. No more getting bored while travelling long distance.
