Speaking at the conference, Dr al-Horr #-Link-Snipped-#, "It has been a lot of very hard work by a dedicated team led by the Ministry of the Environment. It is a comprehensive document that incorporates the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS)."

The construction companies which have already taken up contracts with the Public Works Authority recently from September (the fourth quarter of 2011) have to adhere to the new building code after they are released by the Ministry on today. Some cities like the Al Wakrah and Al Khor, which are already in existence, are also revising their urban planning methods to suit the new QSAS standards.

"More than 90 firms from Qatar have signed contracts and comply, and works covering 18 million square metres of neighbourhood developments; 350,000m2 of commercial developments and 75,000m2 of hotel developments are working under the new system," he said. As mentioned before the QCS 2010 will address the environmental aspects and other such issues. It will tackle the consumption of energy and water both during the construction and operation phases of the building. And the HSE will deal with the competence, training and compliance that the construction workers have to follow. Dr Yousef said, "We are very proud of the new codes, and we are looking forward to their compulsory implementation from Monday onwards."
