NETWORK MANAGEMENT WITH LAN MIGRATION
Project Abstract / Summary : Process migration is essential for runtime load balancing. In Grid and shared networked environments, load imbalance is not only caused by the dynamic nature of underlying applications, but also by the fluctuation of resource availability. In a shared environment, tasks need to be rescheduled frequently to adapt the variation of resources availability. Unlike conventional task scheduling, dynamic rescheduling has to consider process migration costs in its formulation. Proposed dynamic scheduling system is feasible and improves the system performance considerably. It can handle high I/O workloads too.
Virtual machine related features such as flexible resource provisioning, and isolation and migration of machine state have improved efficiency of resource usage and dynamic resource provisioning capabilities. Live virtual machine migration transfers "state" of a virtual machine from one physical machine to another, and can mitigate overload conditions and enables uninterrupted maintenance activities. It allows a clean separation between hardware and software, and facilitates fault management, load balancing, and low-level system maintenance. Live migration of virtual machines (VM) across physical hosts provides a significant new benefit for administrators of datacenters and clusters. Previous memory-to-memory approaches demonstrate the effectiveness of live VM migration in local area networks (LAN). By pre-copying the memory of the migrating virtual machine to the destination server, live migration minimizes the transfer time of the virtual machine. A live migration is deterministic, which means that the administrator, or script, that initiates the live migration determines which computer is used as the destination for the live migration. The guest operating system of the migrating virtual machine is not aware that the migration is happening, so no special configuration for the guest operating system is needed.
Why did you choose to work on this project topic : The LAN network we use nowadays face problems like
• More power consumption, by system with no work sitting idle for long time.
• A system becomes overloaded due process traffic which may result in slow down.
• Loss of data due to system crash.
• Time consumption for producing output.
In order to reduce this problems.
Project Highlights : The problems we face may reduce the efficiency of the network .Our proposed system will almost eliminate all these problems.
• Effective utilization of resources.
• The system sitting idle should be shut down.
• Also, the system that work below the threshold value has to be identified and its work has to be distributed to other capable system by the central server and the former has to be shut downed, thus saving power.
• The physical machine which is being overloaded has to be identified and its work has to be distributed to other capable system to reduce workload and better performance.
• When the central server met with a process the server should identify its resource needed and should assign the process to matching system.
If we can implement this project in a network of computers which are continuously using it will be a blessing to reduce the problems like time consumption, overloading of system, power consumptionetc..
