It seems like fans of BMW will have to wait a little for its next generation to get a N37 engine. The car maker recently announced that the newly developed engines are not a necessity in the 3 series of BMW. The next generation is scheduled to be launched next year. Instead the head of BMW development team Dr. Klaus Draeger told that they will rather start with launch of some price sensitive models with front wheel drive architecture.

However, whenever in near future N37 will be used, it will be with equipped with a turbocharged three cylinder engine. The engine would necessarily be of 1.5 liter capacity with each cylinder sustaining a 0.5 liter of charge. The petrol version of the innovative N37 is similar to BMW's turbocharged 2 liter engine viz; N20. The newer version can hence be called a possible down size of N20. N37 is capable to produce 54 bhp per cylinder. The only difference being that N20 is a four cylinder while N37 is a three cylinder engine. Speaking of the eco-friendliness of N37, Draeger pointed out that even after being a 160 bhp engine; it would release Co2 emissions not more than 95gms/Km. N 37 is designed for a high efficiency. It is derived from N37’s high capacity to surface ratio.

However the downsizing does not mean that the engine will be cheap. This is because the high end technology involved in its production and operation. The N37 plant by BMW is set up in its Hams Hall factory situated in UK. Also as per company's plan, a new BMW model may be in market till 2014. Yes, BMW is working on a first generation Gran Turismo. The model is expected to be something like A3 sport back.

Recently Hyundai also #-Link-Snipped-#; however there seems to be no present competition between Hyundai and BMW, the reason being that both are launched with a huge time gap. Still we can expect newer varieties of auto giants coming to market and give each other a tough time. Speaking of company's short term plans Dr. Draeger said that BMW 3 series sedan will be launched in US sometime soon and the actual selling will commence from spring of 2012. The latest 3 series coupe and convertible redesigned as 4 series models sells will commence in early 2013.
