    Can there be multiple jvm in a single machine?? if yes then how would an application behave under more than one jvm??

    JVM invoked by a its path of <Java-Home>/bin/java.exe./sh or any other.
    it your choice which jvm you want to use.

    I think by default the latest installed JVM is used by the system.

    You can have as many JVM you want. The program will use the JVM which is indicated in path variable.So it doesn't have any issue if you have even 10 JVM. One thing to remember - you prgoram should be comatible to the JVM which you are using, otherwise it might not work properly.
