Project Abstract / Summary : All that man requires for health and healing has already been provided in the form of herbs, the challenge is to make it reach to the users. Since modern medicines came into existence, herbal popularity is lost with the ages. The proposed idea of the android app is to bring back India’s lost herbal medication using Cloud computing, where the user has to upload his captured image of the leaf. The app will be making use of the pattern analysis technique which is a part of Image Processing. It is essential to educate oneself about the appropriate way to use each herb, as some are not safe to ingest. The herbal data sets collected are processed in the database and finally provided to the user. The interesting feature in our application is we provide offline search which makes it interesting for the users. Both text based and image based searches are facilitated for the users.
Why did you choose to work on this project topic : The awareness of the medicinal content in herbs around us are unknown most of the times. Knowing the names of such herbs are even more challenging and people have the craze of running behind processed medicines even for elementary illness. Undesirable side effects can be caused by different kinds of medicines such as prescribed medicines, clinical medicines containing herbal preparations, and few other complementary medicine which even results in death. Modern medicine aims at short term relief of an illness and gives quick results in most cases but the consumption of medicines for a longer time becomes undesirable. And thus the above mentioned issues made us to work on this project.
Project Highlights : Our project reduces the economic cost because the users can make homemade remedies for illness. Nowadays people keep running towards hospitals even for a small discomfort. Here the value of our application stands as it provides free and immediate results. Since plant resources are readily available around us, our application would make productive use of herbs.
Hence, our application is completely society oriented and it will serve even the common people. So our project strongly deserves to win this contest.
