It is difficult to understand the question. If a piston is confined in a cylinder and compressed air let into the cylinder, the piston has to move independent of the orientation, vertical or otherwise.
It will help if you can supply some more information. -

you mean you want to build a sterling engine ?
the upward motion of the piston is due to the expansion of the hot compressed air. -

Actually the main problem is of continuity of piston movement.. its a college project of me,
In the very first the the compressed air would move the piston downward.. bt the initial upward motion is required i.e. from BDC to TDC...
Can it be possible without the use of motor(SELF)?? -

what kind of engine are you building ?
what exactly are the working states ?
maybe you can us a diagram.
