Mode, a start-up launched last year, raised $2 million as venture capital with an aim to create a GitHub like service for data scientists and analysts. To prevent the re-analysis of data by different people in the same organization, say 2-3 months after the first analysis was done, Mode would come to rescue by letting others know that the analysis had been previously done. It aims at providing an interactive environment inside the web browser that helps manage and manipulate data effectively and efficiently.

Mode’s co-founder, Derek Steer explains the working of Mode as similar to GitHub but it basically aims at Data Scientists unlike GitHub which is aimed at developers. Mode provides a platform for data scientists where they can not only share their work, but also, find other’s work, building up a reputation system and reducing the overall need of analyzing data multiple times. Thus cleaning up the data-sets and providing people a way to start analysis cloning other’s work rather than starting from scratch. Below is an image of the visual editor of Mode.

Mode offers an analysis environment, where people can work right from their browsers. It also connects through databases and warehouses and provide users with SQL editor and visualization editor. Creating a visual interface for everything, mode aims at reducing the need of data specialists in a particular organization. They also have a paid version of their service for private organizations.

People are already excited about Mode and have started using it for canonical data-sets and analysis. To attract a lot of users, the company has also created a SQL Tutorial. SQL is very important in every aspect and enables one in learning about managing and manipulating information in the databases. The company believe that Mode would become as popular among data specialists as GitHub is to developers.

We would like to know how excited data specialists and scientists are about this news. Speak up in the comments section below.
