MIT Media Lab's Infinity-By-Nine System Makes Ordinary Video More Immersive!
How if we tell you that using your existing television hardware, you can have the ordinary video look more immersive and appealing? You won't need to buy a huge TV screen that covers your complete living room wall. Though we live in the times where tech-giant companies have products that go with the title 'world's largest' and sell like hot cakes, here if we have an innovation from Daniel Novy and V. Michael Bove Jr. of #-Link-Snipped-#, that gives you a cheaper alternative for getting a spatial 3d experience in your own house.
This system is called #-Link-Snipped-#' and it consists of additional screens that go along your side walls and ceiling to create a real-time extension of the video/image on TV. The system uses optical flow tracking, color analysis and pattern aware algorithms to generate these extensions. As you know, our peripheral vision doesn't see things that are out-of-focus very clearly, these extensions are just blurry shapes, but create a wonderful overall effect.

When tested with certain users, the system gave fantastic outputs. Users could feel connected with the on-screen content and felt sensations like heat when an explosion happened on screen (common only in the costly 4D setups).  One can only imagine how users will play with this system if audio-visual content specific for this particular system is created.
