American software mammoth Microsoft (MS) has recently been stepping up its game. After the announcement of Microsoft And Accenture Collaborate To Develop A Hybrid Cloud Platform and the availability of the recent Microsoft Azure Gets New Features And Improved Services, Microsoft has brought yet another good news for its users. Microsoft has officially announced that its largest ever acquisition, Skype is now available for Office Word Online and Office PowerPoint Online. This means that the users of MS Word and PowerPoint Online can now edit their documents in real-time while simultaneously chatting with the co-authors of the document.

It is an extremely positive news for MS users who always had to go through the painful process of communicating via emails or other applications in order to discuss regarding their writing/editing work on MS documents with someone else. With this option now open, MS has now overcome its drawback of lack of alliance facility that Google Drive offers. Users can connect via Skype desktop or mobile. Though, it is a bit hazy that how will it exactly work but it seems that the user might receive some kind of notification when their team members are working on the project so that they can join in if they wish.

The option is easy to implement. Only thing that the users have to do is to link their Microsoft and Skype accounts and they are good to go. The two or more users working on a same word/PPT document will see a group chat option which will allow them to stay in contact and edit the corresponding document concurrently. The great part is that the users can continue with their chat even after the document is closed.

With their concentration on building cross platform and cloud applications, it is a good move by MS to bring out the group chat option. There has been no announcement about whether or not the choice will be available for OneNote and Excel documents, but the way MS is going, if the option becomes available, it will hardly be a surprise.
