  • Microsoft had declared that a Windows RT version of Office was being created so that it could run on reference hardware with an ARM processor. The details of it all were unknown till date, but now they are out. So, they started optimizing Office to match the specs of Windows RT devices such as being portable with longer battery life, or being touch-enabled or having SSD drives of 16 to 32 GB capacity or wireless connectivity. So, with an aim to bring all the plush features such as save to SkyDrive, roaming settings, other Windows Live integration, Office.com experience, etc, 'Microsoft Office For Windows RT' was born.

If we take a look at the subtle differences between these two version of Office, we find that Office 13 RT doesn't have support for - Macros, playing older media formats in PowerPoint, editing equations written in Equation Editor 3.0, certain email sending features (since Windows RT does not support Outlook), creating a Data Model in Excel 2013 RT, Recording narrations in PowerPoint 2013 RT and some minor features in OneNote 2013 RT.

The Office Home & Student 2013 RT is only available on Windows RT devices and customers will see its preview editions only to get them automatically updated as and when the final edition arrives. The update schedule will roll out on the Office Blog by October 26.
