Pirate Pay is a three-member Russian anti-piracy firm lead by Andrei Klimenko which claims of being capable of stopping P2P based file sharing by attacking the BitTorrent groups hosting pirated content, making it extremely difficult for users to connect to each other in order to share files. Having initially developed this technology to protect copyrighted content, the developers soon realized its potential to tackle illegal file sharing on a whole and decided to tap into the anti-piracy industry.

The start up recently attracted $100,000 from the Microsoft Seed Financing Fund and $34,000 from Bortnik Fund through venture investments, hoping to substantially expand its foreign operations and spearhead the ongoing fight against online piracy by collaborating with as many movie studios and music labels across the globe to monitor and control the distribution of their content online.
In the initial test campaigns, the Pirate Pay system claims to have blocked nearly 50,000 downloads of Sony Picturesâ year end release, âVysotsky: Thank God I am Aliveâ by blinding IP addresses.
