Manta Amphibious - The Concept Car
Most of us know what a concept car is. Concept car is a prototype for showcasing new technology and/or a new look. It does not have any technical specifications but still is kept mostly in motor shows to see the customers’ reaction towards the new designs.
Amphibious meaning which can live on land and in water also. Here the car MANTA can run on road and can propel in water also. This concept car is designed by a Belgian car designer David Cardoso Loureiro. He is currently a project engineer guiding and managing solar projects. The design of Manta Amphibious was one of those designs which were chosen by the judges of Michelin Challenge Design 2011 for display at the recent North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).
The Michelin Challenge Design was created by Michelin North America in 2001 to showcase new technology and innovative designs in vehicles. This year a record breaking number of 970 entries were attracted to Michelin Challenge Design 2011 but only 34 of them made to the NAIAS. MANTA was one the 34 designs to make to the NAIAS.
Manta Amphibious is a three wheeled electrically powered car. Now a day we see the alloy wheels of cars which resemble the blades but in Manta these are actually the blades which are used for propulsion in water. Each of the rare wheels is independently powered by electrical motors. When the car goes in water the wheels are turned to 90o for providing the propulsion.
As the car is electrically powered, this car can’t provide higher speed on road and doesn’t come under the section of fast cars. Though it has a sporty look, one of the drawbacks or limitations is only one person can travel in it at a time. MANTA can not achieve the speeds and distances in water like that can be achieved using boats or the Water car python but it can travel small distances efficiently. For this it would be great deal for people living near lake or river. Also the driver will not need to swap the vehicle for land and water. The main advantage of MANTA is that it doesn’t consume fuel. By considering all these features, MANTA amphibious will surely gain value for becoming a Green car.
