It's been a while, since 1976, that Russia returned to the moon. The Luna-24 was the last Russian machine that landed on the moon. Russia did send probes to other planets, like Venus with their Venera program but moon remains the hot favourite for the Roscosmos - the Russian Space Agency. The current plan is to land the Luna-25 on the Lunar south pole and explore the possibilities of setting up a lunar base.

All the instruments for the Luna-25 are being developed by the Russian Space Research Institute. Russia will not only perform scientific experiments on the moon, but also check the feasibility of having humans land by 2030.

Luna-25 will be equipped with TV cameras, instruments to carry out IR spectrometry of minerals and special sensors to perform analysis of lunar dust.

It's about a decade before we'll see how Russia gets this project done. What do you think about Russia's latest quest to the moon?
