    The Consumer Electronics Show is not just about fancy gadgets or home appliances it’s much more. So let’s explore some other items that were put for display, for example like a high precision rifle that has Linux running under its hood and comes with its own mobile app which makes sure that the first shot is a kill shot. Austin, Texas based Tracking Point has come up with these Precision Guided Firearms range of weapons. These rifles are highly customised hunting rifles that have been fitted with computerised digital tracking scopes, modified trigger mechanism and custom made bullets. From the scope the shooter can see a heads-up display of the target which shows additional information like compass orientation, cant and incline. The target first has to be “marked” on the scope by using a button near the trigger which is later illuminated by the built-in laser. Once the tracking scope takes into account a bunch of information like the range of the target, the ambient temperature and humidity and also the age of the barrel it reorients the crosshairs to confirm the target. Once the trigger is pressed the rifle waits for  the position of the reticle and the marked target’s pip to coincide and then it fires the shot.

    These rifles also contain a non volatile storage that constantly records the video feed from the scope. An inbuilt Wi-Fi server transmits the video feed to an iOS app on your iPhone and iPad which then can act as a spotter by which trainers can train novice shooters. The app can also upload videos from your shooting to your Facebook and YouTube accounts. But all of this comes with a hefty price tag of $17,000 (931,609 INR).
