LINE's Popcorn Buzz App Will Let You Call 200 Friends Simultaneously

Group calls have fast become the most amazing way to quickly collaborate with your friend circle or team mates. Voice calling conferences have become a regular thing. Cashing in on the opportunity, the Japanese corporation LINE has introduced a new app on Android called 'Popcorn Buzz'. Designed primarily to help you make group calls, the Popcorn Buzz app is easy to use and its biggest USP is that you can call up to 200 people at the same time. Inviting friends to the call is easy as you just have to log-in to LINE and send them a URL. The only fee needed to make such a large scale audio conference call is your regular data charges or Wi-Fi fees.

Users of the app can create and store various groups and give them names so that it's not a hassle of adding all participants every time you want to make a group call.

One of the more interesting features of the app is that it lets you see who among the 200 people is talking at the moment by bubbling up their face on your screen. It seems that this is a rather important feature as it may not always be easy to recognize the voice of the person talking in a large group. To see who initiated the group call, users just need to just take a glance at their screen. The call initiator will have yellow circle over their profile icon.

As mentioned above, the Popcorn Buzz app is designed only for free group calls. For free 1-on-1 calls, there’s always LINE. The company has also promised an iOS version of the Popcorn Buzz app, so iPhone users need not frown. Moreover, they have began working on bringing group video calls as a feature too.

It is interesting to note here that many other popular app such as Google Hangouts or Skype also allow free group voice or video calls, but number of people who can take part is limited.

Do you believe that LINE's Popcorn Buzz app can be a hit in the Indian market that has thousands of Android users? Share your opinions with us in comments below.
