LG Unveils World's Greenest 47" LCD Panel

LG has unveiled a new 47-inch LCD panel. They’ve been trying to reduce power consumption while not compromising on the brightness levels. After considerable research and persistent efforts, LG has come up with this new LCD panel and claims that its power consumption is the least among displays that are larger than 40 inches.

Astonishing as it may sound, the power consumption of this panel is claimed to be lower than even 20-inch computer displays. The new 47? LED LCD panel requires only 28 watts of electricity to operate whereas 20-inch PC monitors that usually use between 30 to 50 watts of power
By deploying LED bulbs vertically on only one side of the panel, LG has reduced the total number of LEDs needed to illuminate the LCD screen. To take care of high level of brightness necessary for HDTV displays, LG employs a three-film structure for light focusing and diffusion, in conjunction with the vertical single-side LED backlight as well as local-dimming technology.
The LED bulbs themselves are relatively energy efficient and at the same time, the panel maintains 400 Nits of brightness by using a three-film structure that helps focus and diffuse light, together with proprietary 'Local Dimming Technology'.
This seems to be just a tech demonstration by LG, as there is no word about shipping date or price of displays built with this technology.
