After launching the AKA smartphones in its home town last year, the South Korean giant is now set to release its affordable smartphone line up in the overseas market. According to a press release by LG, the rollout will first take place in Hong Kong next week followed by China, Taiwan, Singapore and Turkey. However, the company has not revealed the price of the AKA smartphone for these markets, and says pricing can be expected to be announced locally near launch.

The AKA smartphone line up comes with four unique cases: Eggy (yellow case), Wookie (white case), Soul (blue case) and YoYo (pink case). What differentiates the smartphone from the others is that it comes in four different styles or “personas” and these personas translate into wallpapers, widgets, and ringtones. Further, the phone also sports a set of animated eyes that can be customized by the user. All four cases feature different-styled eyes which are meant to depict different moods. Notably, LG AKA has been awarded an iF Design Award for its unconventional approach to smartphone design.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the phone flaunts a 5-inch IPS display with HD (720x1280 pixels) resolution and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. It is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor paired with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage, along with microSD card expandability. The device is equipped with an 8-megapixel rear and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. Other camera features include Laser Auto Focus, Touch and Shoot, and Gesture Shot. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, AGPS, and USB. It packs a 2610mAh battery and weighs 135.5 grams. The handset comes with preloaded with Snapshoot tool that creates an animated 3D version of the clicked image.

Further, for the global rollout, the company has added an emotional UX element like customizable glasses and eyebrows for each pair of eyes. Another unique UX feature is the Art Toy figurine which can be digitized and integrated into the phone's user experience.
