The Large Hadron Collider at the French-Swiss border, located 100 meters underground, was built with an intention to solve the mystery surrounding the origins of the universe. Scientists have put a lot of effort into its research and have also made progress under the collision theory.

The LHC had its first experiment with proton beams during 2008, which was a failed attempt and later in 2009, they had a successful one. Since then, experiments have been going on and lately it had its last test for the next two years. The particle accelerator is said to undergo repairs and upgrades to hit a critical benchmark. The current design is limited to a combined collision energy of 8 TeV and the scientists plan to push it up to 14 TeV.

The LHC has been a boon to researchers in collision theory and particle physics, providing them with large amounts of data. It provided huge evidence about the Higgs Boson (God Particle). So, for now we wouldn't hear much from CERN's machine until around 2015.
