kSafe Smart, Lockable Safe Opens Only When You've Achieved Your Goals
Whenever you are trying to achieve a goal on your own, you need discipline. But more than that, we all have to admit, we all have tried our own secret ways to shun other activities & resist temptations to achieve what we want to, be it a health or fitness goal, an academic goal, a work related time-bound task or even a simple reminder to brush your teeth twice. Well, folks over at TheKitchenSafe have come up a wonderful new product known as the kSafe that let you be motivated for achieving some pre-set goals. kSafe is basically a lockable safe-like device that has smart features. Designed to work on a research proven system, kSafe can be used to lock up any of your temptations, be it cookies, TV remote or an iPad such that it unlocks only when you complete a goal set through the dedicated app. In short, the kSafe system works only when you hit your goal, enjoy your reward, and repeat. Simple.
The developers have designed the kSafe app to set three different types of goals as of now - Activity goals (fitness tracking), Location goals (students checking-in library) and Time goals (great for cutting back the bad habits like smoking). As for the looks - the kSafe box is designed to look good in any room. It features a button dial and 360 LED ring that allows you to quickly check on your progress. Available in three colors, kSafe can be bought in black-opaque, white-opaque, and white-translucent options.
Now for the science behind this technique. Well, the kSafe team aggregated the data from the behavioral research from MIT, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and Princeton in to build this easy to use, fun product. The two major concepts at play are pre-commitment and reward substitution. While, pre-commitment refers to committing to a smart choice early, when you know you'll be tempted by a bad choice later, reward substitution means working extra hard now to enjoy later. Right now the smart, connected, lockable kSafe product is up on Kickstarter looking for funding. What are your thoughts on using such a product? Share with us in comments below.
