Keep Rocking On The Digital Guitar With No Strings

Believe it or not, Misa has created the world’s first digital electric guitar which has a touch screen instead of strings! The Misa digital Kitara guitar is an awesome piece of work launched at the recently concluded CES 2011 in Las Vegas. Plus, it’s not just a prototype but is already available for pre-order. The guitar sounds perfect and not any different than the ordinary guitars.

[IMG]Many digital synthesizers have been available in the market for a wide array of percussion and symphony instruments like the piano, keyboard, drums, etc. However, the idea of creating a synthesizer for the string instruments is a much more complex proposition. But the researchers at Misa were smart enough to reproduce the guitar sounds like strumming a single string or playing different chords by using a multiple- touch screen interface.

The guitar comprises of three main parts; a multi-touch screen, a full fret board with buttons and a polyphonic equalizer with a huge library full of crazy riffs and awesome sound effects. The touch screen interface is quite large measuring about 8 inches on which you can showcase your strumming skills or simply play the guitar with distortion mode on. The frets use push buttons which you can press in order to play the desired chords while simultaneously brushing your fingers on the touch screen.

The die- hard guitar fans and the purists will be immediate in pointing out that the Kitara is no real guitar but merely a MIDI controller. Of course, they are right in saying that this gadget is just a MIDI controller having a guitar like appearance and sound, but Misa is not aiming to replace the acoustic and electric guitars with Kitara. It is just a fulfillment of Guitar Hero gamers’ dream to play it in real life and a utility instrument in a music recording studio. This mean machine is available in two different models (regular plastic body and limited edition aluminum body) with hefty price tags of $849 and $2899 respectively. The delivery is expected to start from early April this year.
