ISRO's "SAGA-220": 220 TeraFLOPS Super Computer Is India's Fastest
#-Link-Snipped-#aka Indian Space Research Organization has built SAGA-220 which can do 220 trillion floating point operations per second. The computer is located at Satish Dhawan Supercomputing Facility at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, India. ISRO plans to use this high-speed computer to perform complex calculations required in aerospace engineering. SAGA - 220 is a GPU based computer inaugurated by Dr K Radhakrishnan, current chairman of ISRO.
SAGA stands for Supercomputer for Aerospace with GPU Architecture. The supercomputer has been entirely built by Indian researchers and engineers at the VSSC facility of ISRO. Engineers used commercially available hardware, few in-house developed components and open source software. The system configuration is as follows: 400 NVIDIA Tesla 2070 GPUs, 400 Intel Quad Core Xeon CPUs (courtesy WIPRO) working together with a ISRO developed interconnect. Each GPU and CPU performing at 500 Giga FLOPS and 50 Giga FLOPS, the theoretical speed SAGA-220 achieves 220 TF speed.

ISRO mentions that the architecture they've built is superior and cost effective as well. In addition, it also consumes lesser power, making the whole system more environment friendly. The total cost of manufacturing SAGA was about Rs. 14,00,00,000 and it consumes 150kW power. The researchers are now working on scaling the system to multiple PetaFLOPS. (1 Peta FLOP = 1000 Tera FLOPS).
