    i am going to do small design project so i am going to use free software version provided by autodesk community .
    so i have downloaded AUTODESK INVENTOR PROFESSIONAL to do my design so is this software good for 3D designing and assembling of a machine..

    First of all you got to be familiar with using a particular software, and your own experience with that will be a better judge.

    do you really know how to operate AUTODESK INVENTOR ? have you worked with it before ? if no , then you got to learn about it before you proceed with your project work.

    If you don't have prior experience with any of the solid modelling software, then I'd suggest you to work on SolidWorks as it is relatively easy to learn and much intuitive to use.

    But as you have downloaded Inventor, so the best I can suggest you is to learn this software from the tutorials provided by Autodesk. Here is the link -

    Also keep in mind that the free version might not be having all the required features for your 'small design project'.

    another alternative apart from autodesk or solidworks would be pro-engineer or catia.

    i have heard that solidworks even though simpler is not as flexible as pro-e
