is there any element that can sense a heart beat?

hello friends!! i just wanna do a mini project on electronic stethescope.but most of them told me that there is no element to sense such a feeble sound.is it possible ? if u can help me then iam so thankful.
You can sense it, but you'll need to amplify it! Just use a normal microphone (like the one used on headphones) and amplify the signals. Make sure you shield the mike from background noise though.

And shield it from the user. So you don't accidentally fry your victim..umm I mean, your subject.
