  • Just read the news that Malaysian Government has offered $5000 to the relatives of the passengers who were traveling in MH370 and it's ready to pay more. The government is already paying for the hotel stay and other expenses of the relatives who are in Malaysia to seek the details of the passengers.

The investigating agencies still aren't sure what really happened to the plane that made it disappear from the air and plunge into the Indian ocean. Had they confirmed that it was a hijacking attempt; the blame would have gone to Malaysian Airlines security agencies and the airline would have been completely responsible for the incident. If the problem was in the design or maintenance of the aircraft; the respective companies would have been held responsible.

    But no one knows anything!

In such a situation, do you think Malaysian Airlines is justified in offering monetary compensation to the relatives? I'm seeking both for and against opinions! What do you think?

To start off things, I think no amount of money can be a compensation for a loss of a human bring. I think the Malaysian Government decided to pay the compensation is because they were the ones that delivered the news to the relatives that the plane had crashed and there were no survivors. Their search efforts with cooperation from over 25 countries have yielded no conclusive results and with the time running out they had no option but to declare the loss of life and pay the compensation.

A similar procedure happens in India too. Whether it’s a land slide, flood, train accident or something else the state or the central government pays compensation to the victims. If it would have been a country like the USA, depending upon the cause the institution would have to pay settlements.

Personal opinion: The Malaysian authorities paid the compensation without waiting for the reasons of the crash to be revealed because they are not aware of the proper course of action. It is the first time the country had to face such a disaster and they are not sure how to deal with this situation.
