IK Multimedia is a music technology company that manufactures products for music creation, live performance and other music segments. In 2010, it launched the first compact guitar/bass interface known as iRig and an app called AmpliTube only for Apple devices iPhone and iPod touch. The pocket friendly device allowed guitarists to jam anywhere they want. But hereâs a great news for Android users as the company has announced the new version of their device known as iRig 2, which is compatible with Android smartphones with a 3.5 mm input that supports the CTIA/AHJ wiring standard. The new light weight interface has features like versatile gain control and a 0.25 inch amplifier output.
Unlike iRig, that had an instrument jack at one end and a headphone jack and iOS device connection port at the other, the plug and play iRig 2 has an additional output called 6.4 mm amplifier jack that can output tone and effects. This amplifier output is used with an external amplifier without using an adapter. It has a dual-mode FX/THRU switch that allows users to use their mobile as tuner, recorder or other tool. In other words, users can either choose a processed signal or a clean "thru" input signal. The input gain control knob is present for getting perfect sound quality from the setup. iRig 2's Velcro slot is used for attaching it to microphone stand while performing. The 1/8 inch TRRS output connector is compatible with android devices.
AmpliTube App is available for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and Android devices. It is available for free on Google Play store. The app turns the smart devices into an impressive mobile guitar and bass multi-effects processor that consist of various digital versions of amplifiers and stompbox effects and also gives realistic amp tones and effects.
The iRig 2 interface will be available in the market for $39.99 by first quarter of this year.
