IPv6 Enormous Upgrowth, Go Daddy Plays Godfather

A major rise in the IPv6 addresses have been reported according to an Internet Census. While IPv4 addresses are clearly exhausting, and IPv6 are an inevitable option, yet the internet didn't see an upsurge of a migration from the former to latter until this year. The catch here being, if the external presence only supports IPv4, then one can communicate only with IPv4 addresses. Hence, to make the process hassle-free IPv6 has to be provided to the outside world first and then seeped inward.

IPv6 addresses are considered to be a costlier option and though large organizations like The Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN) #-Link-Snipped-# (HPCMP) and #-Link-Snipped-# are fast-growing adopters of IPv6, a growth of only 2.5% was measured till 2010.

A recent Internet census by Infoblox | Cloud-First Security & Networking | DNS, DHCP, & IPAM (DDI) has revealed that under the domain zones  .com, .net and .org that support IPv6, the percentage uproar has been 1900 for this year. This major upsurge has been accounted to mainly #-Link-Snipped-# Registrar, with its adoption of IPv6 addresses. A 1900 % increase - from 1.27% last year to 25.4% in 2011 in the domains that support IPv6 have been reported. Go Daddy being a popular registrar, the IPv6 addresses are now available to a wider number of subscribers. The top three countries in IPv6 adoption are France, the U.S. and the Czech Republic.

A substantial improvement has been noted because of a single popular registrar and tracing the business perspective, the adoption of more and more IPv6 addresses by Registrars would lead to a faster migration from IPv4 to IPv6.  If the registrars add IPv6 support for email and web servers, a rather big obstacle to those businesses’ enabling IPv6 would be removed and adoptions could rise further. In times, when IPv4 might as well last only till 2012, a Registrar who does not support IPv6 might slow down the business wanting to implement IPv6 for external content.
