The next iPhone is likely to ship with a force sensitive touch-screen display, reports the Wall Street Journal. Apple has recently demonstrated their new touch technology in the #-Link-Snipped-#and the #-Link-Snipped-#. These gadgets can recognise the difference between a gentle touch and a hard press; and take different actions. Apple officially calls the technology 'Force Touch' and the latest reports hint that the upcoming iPhone (let's call it iPhone 7 or iPhone 6S or iPhone 6S Plus) will have the technology in its touchscreen.

Force Touch allows for newer type of input recognition that wasn't possible before. The sensors detect the heaviness in your touch and take appropriate action as programmed. For example, during the recent Apple event, Phil Schiller demonstrated how users could speed up fast forward or reverse a video by pressing the touch-pad harder. It's likely that the Force Touch on iPhone will replace toggles: for example you could hard press the screen to make a letter change case from lower to capital.

It'd be interesting to see how the hard-core haters of the iPhone keyboard respond to this latest development. That said, we are still in the rumour phase and will have to wait for the next Apple event targeted at iPhone hardware refresh to see what Cook's engineers are cooking.

I think mobile innovation has peaked. I lost hope in them after seeing the latest 'thin' MacBook.
