iPhone 4's FaceTime Works On Wi-Fi Only. Meh!

On June 07, 2010 Apple changed the world (in their own words, of course) by introducing company's latest iPhone 4. Despite the infamous leaks to the press, Steve Jobs managed to get lot of oomphs from the audience during his talk. Kudos to SJ's presentation skills which he's honed over past so many years. While the existing Android phones have almost all the the feature that new iPhone has, newly introduced 'FaceTime' cannot be ignored.

[IMG]For the first time since its inception, iPhone now supports video calls. iPhone's hardware for video calling comprises of two cameras, one on the front side just above the display and the second, besides the LED flash light. The camera on the front has been specially designed to adjust its focal length within arm's range so that it captures the best possible picture during the chat. Of course you can switch between the front facing and the back facing camera during the call, by touching the appropriate link on the display. The camera works great in landscape & potrait modes.

Here's how it works: If you are on a call or want to make a video call, simply select the 'FaceTime' link on the phone's screen. The person you've called will be asked for confirmation and if accepted, video call will initiate. Of course, its a much awaited feature on iPhone. But hold on - there's a catch! The FaceTime application online works when you're connected  through WiFi. The application won't let you chat over your high speed 3G connection. Definitely an important factor to consider if you're planning to get iPhone 4G.

It would have been very useful had FaceTime been made to work on 3G connections. So, what do you think? Don't you want FaceTime to work on 3G?
