    Project Abstract / Summary : This is a solution for enhancing public transportation management services based on RFID and GSM.
    The system consists of three modules: In-bus module, Bus stand module & Blind assistance module. The In bus module consists of an RFID tag and the Bus stand module consists of an RFID reader, PIC microcontroller, TTS, loudspeaker, GSM module and LCD display. When the bus enters into the bus stand, the RFID reader at the entry gate reads the tag and sends the number to the microcontroller. The Microcontroller on receiving the tag number displays the name and destination of the bus via the LCD display and announces them with the help of TTS module and loudspeaker. At the same time, it sends the same to the nearby bus stand, where the name and time is displayed using LCD display. The blind assistance module consisting of RFID reader, TTS and headphone helps the blind by speaking out the name and destination of the bus, when the bus comes near to him.

    Why did you choose to work on this project topic : Due to non-availability of prior information about the buses arrival schedule, people have to wait for longer on bus stops especially in morning when they have to reach the offices in time. The travel time of buses varies depending on several external parameters such as accidents, traffic and snow. Bus station follows fixed schedules and routines, and don’t make use of intelligent systems for vehicle tracking and control. Many administrators are deployed at the station who controls the exit of buses and the entrance of buses and he prepares the trip sheets containing the schedules manually which are time consuming and inaccurate. Our project gives solution for these issues

    Project Highlights : Passenger waiting can be avoided by providing exact arrival time. The name and destination of the buses entering the stand will be announced automatically and thus mannual effort can be avoided. This system implementation is easy and of low cost compared to the sytem with GPS.
