Intel WiGig Wireless Technology Promises Speeds 10x 802.11n & More Connected World
At the Intel Developer Forum 2012 in San Francisco, Chief Technology Officer Justin Rattner demonstrated the latest advancement in wireless technology, 'WiGig'. It's a next-generation wireless standard in the world of communications that operates in the millimeter wavelengths of radio spectrum. With that, it allows delivery of data at the rate of 5 - 7 Gbps. The WiGig standard is an industry wide effort being pushed to make sure that all of the proprietary 60 GHz wireless technologies get consolidated under existing Wi-Fi standard.

It's a no brainer that speeds up to 7 Gbps can do wonders to the way our electronic gadgets communicate with each other. Rattner said that WiGig technology will allow docking of enabled Ultrabook, tablet computers or smartphone without any wires. The technology can even dock several displays together, wirelessly.  WiGig's Protocol Adaption Layers (PALs) have the capability of replacing your variety of wires that mess up our living rooms including USBs, HDMI cables, Display Ports. Let's say we call it the 'Wireless #-Link-Snipped-#'.
It's being learned that the WiGig will be backwards compatible with 802.11 and offer a range of about 10 meters ( ~ 33 ft). We believe that's just enough to cover most of wire-connected devices in your drawing room. The technology is expected to be certified by mid 2013. Expect the electronics markets to get flooded with WiGig technology in the next year. Future's definitely exciting, isn't it?
