Following the introduction of the latest core processor named sandy bridge, Intel has launched a service called Intel Insider. It is not a new processor that is being released. It is a feature existing in the sandy bridge processor itself. It is now being put to use by Intel. Another feature of sandy bridge that has not been put to use is the Wireless Display technology. It is also put to use along with this service.

What is Intel Insider all about?

If your PC is fitted with sandy bridge processor, then insider allows you to download and view protected files from insider’s vendors. It is similar to movie on demand service. But what is so good about this is that it allows you to do the downloading well ahead of the release date and view the movie exactly on the release date. So now you do not have to wait for the release date before you can download the video or movie. This technique is called “proactive queuing”.

So when you contact a video vendor supporting Intel insider, the server scans your computer for sandy bridge processor and once it identifies it starts sending encrypted data that is received by the computer. The earlier mentioned wireless display technology is used to stream the data to your TV or any other device for watching. But the main thing about this is that the data sent to your PC is for your PC only. You can not copy it or transfer it to some other PC. So there is secure protection to the secure video using Insider. In fact it is the service provider who decides the time and the time period you get to watch the movie. So the PC has now been transformed into a secure and trusted platform for the studios’ premium content.

The well known site Hungama.com has signed a tie-up with Intel for providing loads of Bollywood and Hollywood movies for the audience. The user can gain access to movies by Yash Raj Films, Paramount Pictures, T-Series and Reliance Home Video. The user can opt for a pay-per-movie plan or choose to subscribe for a specific number of movies from Hungama’s library.

The only class of people who will be affected are Piracy lovers. As for the user, they can decide whether or not to use the Insider’s service, also none of their contents will be touched by the Insider.

But before that what needs to be done is standardizing this technology as a copy protection technology and making this service available for other processors too. Intel looks forward to take Insider into other sectors like edutainment, songs and other things.
