Instagram is coming to Android and there's good news for the eager ones! Though it will take a while for Instagram to land on the open-source Android platform, the popular photo-sharing social network has launched a#-Link-Snipped-# dedicated to Android users who want to be "first in line" for the app. Instagram is a photo-sharing app that allows users to take a photo, apply a digital filter, then share it on a variety of social networking services. As of yet, it is available across Apple devices running iOS 3.1.2. or above.

At the recent interactive conference South By Southwest, Founder Kevin Systrom announced that Instagram, a start-up that was launched in Apple's App Store on October 6, 2010, had amassed a total of 27 million users, with a major growth of 14 million users seen between the months of November 2011 to March 2012. During the same conference, Systrom introduced Instagram for Android, claiming it to be one of one of the most incredible Android apps ever, though void the audience of a release date. A Windows 7 phone version is also rumored.

The company also announced its first partnership with Hipstamatic, granting the rival photo sharing app to send photos to Instagram. This, with the arrival of an Android app in near future, only fortifies Instagram's position in the social-networking market with a wider target audience.

Though the "coming soon" tag still hangs on to the Android version, you might never know what signing up for the "first in line" may bring you. Most would bet on a beta version for the early seekers. No harm in signing up anyway, eh?
