India's Smartphone Explosion in E-commerce Markets

India has now become the third largest smartphone market after China and United States. With the current trends will ultimately stands on second place surpassing the United States by the end of this year. Around 225 million smartphones will be sold in India in 2014, 92% of this will be purchased by first time users.

Snapdeal, one of the India's leading e-commerce market place stated that half of its total sales is contributed from mobile market. Per Snapdeal, India is moving to m-commerce much faster than any other country in the world. According to Snapdeal 45% of total transactions seen on mobile come through the native applications while remaining 55% came through the mobile site. Per Ankit Khanna, VP, product management of Snapdeal.com, "Given the increasingly higher consumption of data on mobile phones, we think that the next wave of digital commerce customers will come from this medium"

Binny Bansal, Co-founder of another e-commerce site's Flipkart, told in an interview that the company’s mobile users now contribute almost 40 percent of the traffic, up from just 15 percent last year.
