Late to the party, but India's decided to use their own GPS (Global Positioning System) which would be independent of the technology created by the United States. The director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) has said that this year India will launch a series of navigational satellites to allow regional navigation in India. China, Russia, US and other countries already have their own navigational systems or have been developing similar systems.

India's GPS system will be officially called GAGAN and it will require a number of satellites in space. The first of the lot, Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) will be launched with PSLV C-22 rocket in the next few months. Once all the satellites are at positioned properly, India will launch the GAGAN officially by 2014.
