Thank you mam for the great guideline but I have a query about the form filling procedure for the IES 2015, I have read all the details but the query is that if a person belongs to a SC category so he would not to be pay for the exam but, at one stage when you have to fill the challan no. and the registration no. to finish the procedure so what he will do because he have not to pay the amount so what should fill in the challan number box.

What is IES or Indian Engineering Services Exam?
The Engineering Services Exam or ESE 2015 is an entrance exam to be taken by graduate engineers who want to work under the Government of India to manage a large segment of public sector economy such as - Power, Telecommunications, Railroads, Public works etc.
Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) conducts a competitive examination for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services (IES) 2015.
The examination consists of a written examination followed by an interview for personality test.
The recruited candidates at IES 2015 will be eligible for following categories -

- Indian Railway Stores Service
- Central Engineering Service
- Military Engineer Service (Building and Roads Cadre)
- Central Water Engineering

What is IES ESE 2015 examination date and schedule?
- Start Date for IES 2015 Registration: 22nd March 2015
- Last Date for IES Registration 2015: 21st April 2015
- Date of ESE IES 2015 Exam: 20th June 2015( 3 Days exam)
What is the admission criteria of qualification needed for taking the exam?
- B.Tech/B.E or,passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India). or,
- Obtained a degree/diploma in Engineering from such foreign University/College/Institution and under such conditions as may be recognized by the Government for the purpose from time to time, or
- Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or
- Passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or
- Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959

Age-limit: 21-30 years on 1st August of the year of Examination.
What is IES 2015 Exam Application Fee?
Rs. 200 for - General/OBC candidates is Rs. 200
No Application fee for - SC, ST, PH and female candidates
Candidates can make payment through online mode or offline mode.
Online Payment Mode: Credit Card, Debit Card and Internet Banking.
Offline Payment Mode: E-Challan through any branch of SBI (State Bank of India)
How to apply online UPSC IES 2015 Application Form ?
- Candidates need to scan their photograph and signature.
- Now candidates should lo gin to UPSC website #-Link-Snipped-#
- Fill up application form with all necessary details.
- Check the all details carefully and press submit button.
- Online application System will now generate the registration number.
- Get the printout of the online challan and pay the fee to your nearest SBI bank.
- Now visit the web portal again to finish the process.
- Fill the challan number and registration number and press enter.
- Take the print out of the system generated reference number/form for the future use.
- That's it.

Yes. Candidates who hold a B.E. or B.Tech degree in either Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science branch from an recognized by UGC are eligible for IES Exam.

Dear Mam,
I need ur valuable guidance on below points .... pl oblige:
1. I am in final year of B.Tech (CSE).
2.If i would be required to take / study the subjects of CE or ME or EE or ECE , for appearing and clicking the IES.
3. Being student of Comp Science , how i would be absorbed in IES posts / streams (as there are streams of CE,ME,EE,ECE in IES exam).
4. As i have to give my next 2 years to any one preparation between IES or IAS exams, what would be your suggestion ( keeping in view my subjects in BTech(CSE)). For IAS i will hv to study all arts subjects & for IES i shall (as i Understand) have to study subjects of CE or ME or EE or ECE.
5. If u suggest IAS then it's ok, & if u suggest me to go for IES--- which stream should i choose either CE or ME or EE or ECE.
6.Can u pl suggest sm V GOOD coaching institute for IES in India, Preferably North India.

Generally, Computer Science/IT/Computer Technology study some subjects in electronics & communication in their 4 year graduation course (This of course changes from university to university).
Therefore, if a CS/IT graduate candidate does not prefer to learn something completely new from scratch, I think Electronics & Telecommunication (ECE or ENTC whatever you call it) is the best choice for them.
Once you choose the electronics stream and pass the IES exam you will be eligible for jobs in many sectors including -
- Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers
- Indian Railway Stores Service
- Indian Ordnance Factories Service
- Indian Naval Armament Service
- Assistant Executive Engineer (in Ministry of Defence)

Well, it is not in my position to tell if you need coaching or not. Just go through the topics ones and past question papers. Are you able to solve at least 50% of the questions on your own, without anybody's help? If yes, I think you don't any coaching or IES tuitions. Start studying all topics thoroughly and take as many mock tests as possible. All the best!

Electrical Engineering
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
As per my understanding, Yes, you can write the exam, but you will have to select one among the 4 above mentioned streams for the same.

I'll check if someone around here has the old syllabus, but I doubt that this syllabus has changed much over the past few years. Instead of the old syllabus, we recommend that you brush up all the topic mentioned in this syllabus and solve as many past year IES question papers as possible. That should give you good practice.

I think the dates u have mentioned are wrong..these dates are for IES that stand for Indian economic service..
under UPSC it is Engineering services examination..ie ESE...

Hi Anshuman, Go through the official UPSC site, it clearly mentions that those who have a degree in MSc. electronics are eligible to apply.
A degree in Engineering from a recognised university or equivalent. M.Sc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects also acceptable for certain Services/posts only.

What is IES or Indian Engineering Services Exam?
The Engineering Services Exam or ESE 2015 is an entrance exam to be taken by graduate engineers who want to work under the Government of India to manage a large segment of public sector economy such as - Power, Telecommunications, Railroads, Public works etc.
Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) conducts a competitive examination for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services (IES) 2015.

- Passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or
- Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959

What is IES 2015 Exam Application Fee?
Rs. 200 for - General/OBC candidates is Rs. 200
No Application fee for - SC, ST, PH and female candidates
Candidates can make payment through online mode or offline mode.
Online Payment Mode: Credit Card, Debit Card and Internet Banking.
Offline Payment Mode: E-Challan through any branch of SBI (State Bank of India)
How to apply online UPSC IES 2015 Application Form ?
- Candidates need to scan their photograph and signature.
- Now candidates should lo gin to UPSC website #-Link-Snipped-#
- Fill up application form with all necessary details.
- Check the all details carefully and press submit button.
- Online application System will now generate the registration number.
- Get the printout of the online challan and pay the fee to your nearest SBI bank.
- Now visit the web portal again to finish the process.
- Fill the challan number and registration number and press enter.
- Take the print out of the system generated reference number/form for the future use.
- That's it.

1. Electrical
2. Civil
3. Mechanical
4. Electronics and Telecommunication

Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers (AMIE) is actually a professional certificate. It is handed by the Institute of Engineering in India. There is often a confusion regarding whether such candidates are eligible for exams for Engineering graduates.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Development recognizes AMIE as equivalent to degree in Engineering such as Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor of Engineering.
Thus AMIE candidates are allowed to appear for the Indian Engineering Service entrance exam.

And it is not in my position to suggest which category you should apply for. Check the syllabus of all branches and choose the one you are most comfortable with. Your existing knowledge must be aligned to at least one of those 4 branches.

This question has been answered umpteen number of times in this discussion above.
Final year students are eligible for applying to IES 2015 provided he/she can submit the degree after the IES 2015 results are out.
Candidates appearing at their engineering degree or equivalent examination are also eligible to compete. Candidates qualifying on the result of the written part of the Examination will be required to submit the proof of passing the requisite examination along with their detailed application form to be filled up at that stage.

There is no constraint on Number of attempts. You can write any number of times if you are in the age limit specified by UPSC. Right now it’s: 30 years for General Merit candidates, 33 years for OBC, and 35 years for SC/ST and other relaxations are also there. I hope you're aware that, you being a CS graduate; you need to choose any one discipline from Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Electronics. There is no Computer Science subjects in IES. No single question will be asked related to Computer Science.

There is no limit for number of attempts for IES (Indian Engineering Services) exam.

It's tough if you won't study. Whereas, if you really know all your basic concepts and are willing to brushen up your skills by solving as many question papers from previous years, we believe cracking IES 2015 isn't a far-fetched dream.

Pls read the notification clearly, whether ece degree holders can apply for EEE posts,if yes go for it. If they mentioned any syllabus means prepare according to that. All the best.
