  • Huawei has updated its Ascend series of smartphones with the launch of a new Windows 8 OS gadget called the Huawei Ascend W2. The smartphone features a 4.3-inch screen with an IPS display that has 800 x 480 pixel resolution and sports the TFT Magic Touch technology. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has launched the Huawei Ascend W1 earlier this year and this one seems to be its elder brother. Though the pricing details are not yet out, the company has announced that the W2 will be first out in and Russia this month and gradually rolled out to the international market, including India.

    Powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, for the user's storage needs - the Huawei Ascend W2 has 512 MB RAM, 8 GB of internal storage and free 7GB of SkyDrive cloud storage. On the rear end of the smartphone, the Ascend W2 features a 5 megapixel camera that captures up to 720 pixel videos. However, there is no camera on the front for video calling. For connectivity, the phone supports 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi networks and lets you transfer data via Bluetooth 3.0 and connect and charge using the microUSB 2.0 port. In China where it is already available, W2 supports TD-SCDMA and UMTS networks. Deriving its power from a 1,700mAh battery, the smartphone offers up to 9.5 hours of talk time.

    Huawei's latest handset comes in four colour options - red, black, blue and yellow. Kevin Ho, President of Handset Product Line, Huawei Consumer Business Group, said, "We created Huawei Ascend W2 so value-savvy people don't have to compromise on great technology. Huawei Ascend W2 provides an enhanced visual experience and impressive stand-by time, and can be customized inside and out with splashes of color." There are three capacitive buttons below the display that are backlit with colors which reflect the theme chosen by the user.
