How To Detect If Your Mobile Phone Is Infected?

With the introduction of Tablets and Smart Phones, technical mobility is something we access on a daily basis. Personal information is being more easily accessible from any part of the world.  Before the advent of iPhones and Android Tablets, people didn’t consider their handy gadget could carry a damageable risk. It turns out that many of us are not aware about the vulnerability of our mobile devices. We must know that any new technology or platform is susceptible to attacks and should always be considered insecure.

A Computer Science Program Director at the U.S. Military Academy has come up with a new way to identify computer virus attacks on mobile devices. The principle behind is keeping track of the battery power consumption.

To test this they identified some infected devices and examined their battery power consumptions. They converted this data into frequency charts using certain algorithms in order to identify where the highest spikes in usage were. This experiment was successful in detecting a virus as well as in determining where and when it was happening. Moreover it could also use the signatures of the attacks to determine exactly what this attack was, by looking at the unique frequencies this viral attack produced.

One of the problem with this could be that the programs like Kaspersky and Norton Anti-Virus run on desktop computers and laptops that can sustain the battery for long, but mobile devices run out of battery quite faster. But that problem in not encountered since this experiment uses minimal battery power.

There is going to be a lot of updating and adapting as and when new viruses come out, says the man behind this project. Especially the most recent bugs are very dangerous to the new products that have inadequate defenses.
