How to connect download cable to CPLD?

I am using a CPLD in my lab work(7 segment LED circuit).I have done with the VHDL programming but now I am having problem on how to connect the download cable to the CPLD.
What else do I need other than the download cable to write in the CPLD?
Please answer in detailed because I don't have any idea on how to do that.
