#-Link-Snipped-# It's great that you have figured out that you want to become a GIS Analyst. I have heard that GIS Analysts can get a job in companies such as follows:
- CyberTech Systems Software Inc
- Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)
- Town Planning Organization India
- SPANCO Limited
- MWH Global
- Rolta India
In general, following skills are a must for any fresher hoping to become a GIS Specialist
- Analytical skills
- Problem solving
- Statistical ability
- Computer skills
- Good written and verbal skills
- GIS and mapping
- Cartography (which way is North? what does a map projection really mean?)
- Measurement analysis
- Historical geography
- Strong Macro / C / C++ / Visual Basic programming skills
- Strong Oracle or related RDBMS skills
- Georeferencing and Gecoding
- Geodatabsse design
- GIS and Non GIS web Programming
- ArcGis Desktop Customization
- Network Editing and Analysis for utility projects(Electric, Gas and Water)
- Site Suitability Analysis & Land resource Exploration Projects Using ArcGis Desktop
- ArcGis Model Builder
- ArcGIS Extensions
- Python
- SQL server
- Geomedia
- G-tech
- Microstation
- MapInfo
- C#.Net/Asp.net
- Microsoft Access.
As far as scope of this career is concerned, well there are always more and more opportunities coming up. In recent studies, it was predicted that the future of GIS industry is bright as a lot of jobs have been created.
You need to understand that as a Computer Science engineering graduate, your profile matches for the GIS Industry, but you will be competing against graduates with degrees in Geography, Urban planning, Environmental science etc.
Now if you want to build a career as a GIS Analyst, you will need to start learning from scratch. The Indian Geoinformatics Center has a dedicated learning course for GIS. Check official website here: #-Link-Snipped-# for more information on that.
Indian Institute of Remote Sending also offers a PostGraduate Diploma course in Remote Sending & GIS. <a href="https://www.iirs.gov.in/pgdiploma" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">PG Diploma | Official website of Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Indian Space Research Organisation, Government of India</a>
Apart from that there are several institutes across India offering specialised training for GIS. If you tell me the cities you prefer, I can share some names here. Are you sure? This action cannot be undone. -
